On cold fine winters day 197 kids caught a trout in the Eastern fish and game pond – some for the first time. Attached are some of the images captured on this great day.
Thank to Roger for the images
The last kids fish out was held today on a warm windy spring day. Over 250 young anglers learnt to cast a fly and then try there luck in the Eastern Fish and Game pond some for the first time.
Below are some of the images captured during the morning season.
Here is a recipe for Trout cakes from Fish and Game kids New Zealand issue thirteen.
- 1 Trout cleaned1/2 onion diced
- 1/2 red bell pepper, diced
- 1 egg
- 2 tblspn mayonnaise
- 2 tblspn mustard
- 1 handful fresh parsley, chopped
- lemon juice
- olive oil
- toasted sesame seeds to taste
Brush trout with olive oil, place on foil in a roasting pan, and broil until barely cooked through. The meat should separate easily from the backbone and skin yet still be tender and moist. Pick out all the bones. Set meat aside.
Saute diced onion and red pepper in butter. Remove to large bowl. Mix together with the trout meat, mayonnaise, mustard, egg, breadcrumbs, parsley and a squeeze of lemon. Add toasted sesame.
Form into patties and fry in butter until cakes are lightly browned on the outside.
The second kids fish out for 2013 was held today at the Fish and Game Hatchery at the Ngongotaha hatchery grounds. Many new anglers were shown how to cast a fly and then catch a trout in the fish out pond, many for the first time. Below are some of the images captured, on this wet August day.
Eleven members of the Rotorua Anglers Association took part in this trip which is designed to introduce members to winter shoreline night fishing.
The evening started at 4.00 pm with a BBQ at the pipe and then anglers spread themselves along the Hinehopu shoreline. The weather was fine with a light SE wind – perfect.
Some anglers fished through the change of light while other hardy souls (read this as mad) fished till nearly midnight. The fishing was hard which may be due to the continued warm weather which has probably delayed the winter spawning.
In spite if this four fish were landed and 3-4 lost.
Hopefully there will be more fish to catch next year.
Thanks Neil for a great night out.
