The last kids fishout for 2011 was held today at the Fish and Game Hatchery fish out pond. It was a fine hot day and 297 young anglers learnt how to cast a fly and catch a rainbow trout, some for the first time. We also had some parents, who went through the programme many years ago, bring their own children.

The second kids fishout for 2011 was held today.

Many fisherman and fisherwoman braved the cold and were taught how to cast a fly and then catch a trout, several for the first time.

To celebrate this achievement each angler received a certificate with the weight of their catch.

Kids fishout July 2011

The first kids fishout at the Eastern Fish and Game Hatchery was held on a cold frosty day on the 17th July 2011. Nearly 500 young anglers learnt to cast a fly and, for a large number, catch a trout for the first time. Each fish was weighed and each young angler received a certificate to celebrate their achievement.

Tukituki River Trip April 2011

Larry, Brian, Rod, Ron, Martin, Gerry, Piet and Rika all left tha RAA clubrooms for the annual Tuituki trip. Accomodation was again the Hastings Anglers Club rooms. Fishing that afternoon revealed lots of scappy small fish that gave a good account of themselves on light 5 wt rods. Weather was changeable over the three days but 35 fish still hit the net. Highlights included Ron getting his truck stuck (4 wheel drive next year) , the flounder at the local pub and we had our Scots member Martin Smith with us.

On the way back to Rotorua the Ngaruroa and Rangitaiki Rivers were all fished successfully.

Over all a very social trip and one for the calender next year.

The last kids fishout for 2010 was held today at the Ngongotaha Fish and game Hatchery. Hundreds of children and young adults were taught to cast a fly and then catch a fish in the fishout pond.

The third kids fishout for 2010 was held today and once again it was a wet and miserable day (See first image of Rotorua). Despite the rain 164 keen young anglers caught a trout from the fish and game pond. This fishout was shared with displays by EBOP, DOC and Rotorua District Council as part of Conservation week.
