Fly Tying 7th December 2009

Just a quick note to remind everyone that the next (and final) fly tying night for the year is on the 7th December.

After weeks of demo-ing glo bugs, grey ghosts, caddis and cadillac nymphs I think it’s about time we did a demo on a dry. So…. I’ll be doing a demo of a fly called the “megafugly”. It’s a cicada imitation and with the hot weather just around the corner I thought it  would  be good timing

For those that have signed up for the xmas swap, you’ve got another week and a half to tie up your offering. We’ll complete the swap at the final night on the 7th. Please , if you’ve committed to tie for the swap and you’re unable to make it on the 7th please give your set to someone that is coming along. Or give me a ring (or email) and I’ll collect your set to bring along.

Judging by the flies I’ve seen so far you’re all in for a very cool set of flies.  Personally I couldn’t decide what to tie for the swap so I did a couple of sets.

A fly box has also been kindly donated by Hamills for the raffle set. Nice one Hamills!

Tight wraps!

See you all on the 7th.

Rotoehu 15 November 2009

The club fishing trip to Lake Rotomahana was changed to Lake Rotoehu due to the summer fire restrictions. Despite a dismal forecast 10 members decided to take their chances and some 40 something trout were landed and many lost. Below are some images from this day.  Thank you Peter West for a  great day.

Learn to fish our lakes and rivers by joining our club trips.  We fish locally and further a field.  Evening, day and weekend trips are organised, not just for the fisherman, but for their families too. This is a great way of exploring new waters and new country.

There are also regular special evenings organised such as our ‘Pot Luck Dinners’, talks by guest speakers, etc.

The Club has many trophies and all members are encouraged to compete for these.  We hold a Trophy Presentation evening each year which is very popular and well attended. These trophies not only acknowledge fishing skills (or luck) but writing and photographic skills as well.

Every Friday night – club rooms open for drinks and conviviality

Kids fishout photos November 2009

The last kids fishout for  2009 was held on the 1st of November 2009. Nearly 300 children and young adults took the opportunity to learn how to  cast a fly followed by catching a trout (some for the first time)  from the  fishout pond at the fish and game hatchery. Attached are  photos of some of the successes on this day.
