Kids Fishout August 2010

The second Kids fishout for 2010 was held today. It was a dismal day with unrelenting rain (See first image of Rotorua) and flooding in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. In spite of the conditions  121 young anglers braved the elements to learn to cast a fly and catch a trout from the Fish and Game Pond. Below are some of the  images captured during the second Kids fishout of 2010.

Fly tying 9 th August 2010

Just a quick reminder that fly tying is on  Monday 9th of August    

Reg Quinn will demo the Pheasant Tail Nymph.    

 

Pheasant tail nymph

 

The Pheasant Tail Nymph is steeped in history and is still an awesome performer today. Any river fisherman (or woman) needs a few doz of these lined up in their flybox!    

Reg will demo the original method of tying these nymphs, originated by Frank Sawyer using only pheasant tail and wire. Plus he’ll demo the regular tying method with thread.
